We receive several phone calls each week this time of year from well-meaning citizens who have found what they believe are "orphaned" animals. Occasionally, wildlife mothers make their nests or hide their offspring in places easily accessibly by humans.
Our advice and, in general, the best course of action is to allow nature to take care of itself. Chances are the next of young rabbits you find or the fledgling bird on the ground are not abandoned.
Our colleague Francis Skalicky from the Missouri Department of Conservation has very good information and advice in today's Springfield News-Leader about baby animals.
